5 Tips for a healthy marriage

1. Always put God first, make time for a quiet time reading the Bible every morning.

This is so important for us to have a quiet time in the morning so we can focus our attention on God first. I find that it helps both of us to view each other through a better lens and helps us to be kind to each other. I highly recommend incorporating a quiet time in your daily routine.

2. Communicate and over communicate.

This one is key in any good relationship, but so important in marriage. We aren’t always the best at this one, but it’s so important to over communicate with each other about everything so you’re on the same page as each other and also so you don’t end up with unmet expectations for the other person. We talk about everything even to the smallest thing of telling each other when we are spending money on something. It helps us stay in tune with each other and on the same page.

3. Have a date night every week

We love our date nights and it’s so important to prioritize your spouse. Even if you have kids, it’s so important to take one day every week aside to have just you and your spouse. Our date nights range from at home movie and game nights to going out to dinner or even going away for the weekend for a small getaway. When we were first married, we didn’t have a lot of money to spend and it was hard on our marriage and we found it difficult at times to plan date nights, but a lot of times it would include a free activity like the pet store or chocolate world for us. Being creative and fun really helps bring your marriage to life.

4. Willing to sacrifice for the other person

This one is a very important one! It’s so essential to place one another’s needs above your own. When we were first married, it took us some time to learn this one. Sacrificing means putting the other persons needs or wants before your own. This takes time and practice to learn how to give up anything from time to things you expect or want.

5. Lots of hugs and kisses

This is so important in every relationship, especially in a marriage. It is said that if you hug someone 20 times a day they feel more loved. We try to hug and kiss each other often throughout the day.

These are the things we’ve found most helpful that have helped us to have a successful and healthy marriage. We are far from perfect and every relationship has it’s difficult seasons, but focusing on serving each other and loving each other through all seasons is so important!

Top 5 Favorite Restaurants in Melbourne, FL

This post is long over due from me as I get a lot of questions about FL even though I don’t live there, but visit about four times a year since my family lives there. One of our favorite things to do when traveling is to try our different restaurants and Melbourne, FL and the surrounding area has a lot of fantastic restaurants to choose from. I wanted to narrow it down to five of our top favorites when we visit.

1. Frigate’s Restaurant Bar and Grille

Florida has a lot of restaurants and bars that are on the water, but this one tops off all of them. The food and atmosphere are both excellent. The restaurant sits right on the Eau Gallie river and is surrounded by beautiful palm trees, twinkle lights, and a dock that goes out to the water. Almost all of the seating is outdoors and you just get that vacay vibe from it. All of their food is amazing, but I particularly love their market grouper that is fresh and can be made different ways with a sauce on top. You must try their sweet potato fries which come with a maple dipping sauce that is amazing. I also love their many cocktails including their red wine sangria. I’ve never had a bad meal there yet and always enjoy the views. Here are some pictures of the restaurant for reference.

2. Yellow Dog

We recently got to eat here with my parents for New Years Eve and it was SO good! It’s definitely on the pricier side, but the food is delicious! Everything on their menu we ordered was so good. They have lots of great fish, steak, chicken, seafood, and even duck on their menu. I got the maple chicken and it was delicious! They even had gluten free and dairy free bread for me as well. I also put a picture of it below for reference.

3. First Watch or Keke’s

These are our two favorite spots for brunch. Both have amazing and unique menus and offer a lot of gluten and dairy free options for me as well. My hubby loves the french toast at both places and I love getting the breakfast hash at both of those places as well. The coffee is also so great and First Watch even has non dairy creamer too!

4. Grilles

This one will always be a favorite to us as it is the place Corbin and I went to with our family after we got engaged. This is more of a casual waterfront restaurant. On the weekends they have live bands out on the patio and dancing and beautiful views of the water. Any of the seafood and fish items are delicious and they have amazing fries!

5. Sands on the beach

If you’re looking for a beachside restaurant this is a great place! It sits right on the beach and has access to the beach from the restaurant. The food is great! I love their salads for lunch and fish for dinner as well. I also love that you can grab a drink and go spend some time on the beach at the same time.

Bonus: Fat Donkey Ice Cream or Del’s Ice Cream

This one is a bonus for you all! Fat Donkey is our absolute favorite place to grab ice cream in the local area. They have a ton of ice cream options and also a non dairy menu which I love of course! If you’re looking for non dairy try their chocolate almond fudge flavor. We used to love Del’s when I could eat regular ice cream, so I definitely recommend checking them out if you don’t have any allergies in the family.

I get so excited sharing all of these restaurants with you all and it makes me excited to visit these places the next time I go! Please let me know in the comments if you’ve been to any of these places or tried them and what your favorite dish is!

Valentine’s Date Night Ideas

Valentine’s day is right around the corner and it’s one of those years where we all have to be creative with our date nights! I wanted to share our top 6 ideas for a unique Valentine’s Day Date night experience at home.

Themed Dinner and Movie Night at home

We love doing dinner and a movie at home and making it really special with dinner and also popcorn and cookies. I love the idea of a themed dinner though and I would go the extra mile to make it special. Last year for May the 4th, we watched Star Wars movies and made some green milk and cookies. It was so much fun to have a theme to it. So maybe you could do a Great Gatsby theme or 50’s style theme or arabian food while watching Aladdin. The possibilities are endless with this one.

Take a master class on how to make chocolate or any cooking class together

We have yet to do this one, but this date is definitely on our list. There are several places online including Airbnb that are offering special cooking course or chocolate making courses. How fun would it be to make your own chocolate.

Spa trip/create your own spa at home

If you can get out and go to a spa and do a couples massage I highly recommend it! Corbin and I have done several of these and we have not been disappointed. If you can’t go out, then create one at home with a bubble bath, lots of candles, calming music, order a special massage oil or lotion, and complete with chocolate strawberries with a glass of wine.

Board Game Night

If you are the competitive type this one can be fun! We love playing board games together. I added a couple of our favorite board games that we can play together just the two of us. Maybe think outside of the box with games you can play that make the night romantic. Make it complete with some snacks and your favorite dessert.

Order in your favorite meal

I love this idea, especially if you live in a big city near lots of restaurants. Order in your favorite meal and enjoy over a candlelight dinner together. Make it extra fun by blindfolding your spouse and seeing if they can figure out what flavors the food has in it.

Take a dance class online

We love going dancing and actually went to a dance studio last year who was giving free salsa dancing classes on Valentine’s Day. It was so much fun! This year is a bit different do why not sign up for one online or look up dance tutorials on youtube. I listed some ideas below.

Free Ballroom and Latin Lessons, Free couples dance lessons, At home couples dance lessons, Virtual Online Dance Lessons, Beginner Salsa Free Lesson

Create a Scavenger Hunt at home

I did a small scavenger hunt for my husband back in our first little apartment together for Valentine’s day with clues and everything. I think it would be fun to try it again at our bigger house. I also think it would be fun to maybe to have some of the clues take you to either a restaurant you both enjoy or a coffee shop. I did clues with different types of candy and the last clue led him to a dessert I had made. So whatever you come up with, just make it fun for the both of you.
